Chip Morton graduated from North Carolina University in 1985 and spent the next six years as a strength and conditioning coach at the collegiate level where he worked with The Ohio State University and Penn State University. Chip is now in his 16th season as a head strength and conditioning coach in professional football. Chip has recently become one of the first two professional football coaches to be certified in the Battling Ropes® training system.
Ray Oliver has been involved in professional and college sports for over 23 years. Ray is currently a strength and conditioning coach with a professional football team. He has coached at major colleges such as the University of Kentucky and the University of Kansas. Ray has been a head strength and conditioning coach with
professional basketball and has spent the last four seasons coaching in professional football. Ray has recently become one of the first two professional football coaches to be certified in the Battling Ropes® training system.
Scott Ramsdell is President and founder of Athletic Performance Inc. (API) which is located in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. He has an athletic conditioning background that has lasted 20 years. Scott has two Associates of Arts degrees from North Hennepin Community College, a professional certificate in Law Enforcement and is MN POST Board Certified. He also holds a Bachelor’s of Science Degree from the University of Minnesota with a major in Kinesiology, Rhetoric and Sociology. Scott has owned, operated, and worked within the fitness and conditioning community in all aspects of employment. He has also held numerous national certifications in the fitness/conditioning field as well as in the law enforcement defensive tactics field. Scott has designed and implemented strength and conditioning programs for amateur and professional athletes. Matt Olson has been a police officer for 10 years in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is a certified personal trainer and an API Caveman Training™ instructor. Justin Chin is the first certified Battling Ropes® coach in California. He has been a personal trainer since 2003 after his leave from the United States Marine Corps where he served as a sergeant during the invasion of Iraq. Justin has acquired numerous certifications and credentials through well accredited organizations such as the National Academy of Sports Medicine, National Council on Strength and Fitness, Kettlebell Concepts, USA Weightlifting, and USA Power-Lifting. Justin represented the U.S. Olympic Committee and 24 Hour Fitness during the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics as a Fitness Ambassador, assisting U.S. athletes at the High Performance Training Center. Julio Anta is the owner of Anta’s Fitness and Self Defense in Miami (Doral), FL. He has been involved in fitness and martial arts for over 35 years. He was a competitive bodybuilder in the early 80s. He has been featured and written articles for numerous martial arts and fitness magazines. He has also appeared on numerous local, national and international TV shows. Frank DiMeo is the owner of CrossFit Gulf Coast and is certified as a CrossFit Level 1 Instructor and in CrossFit Level 1 Kettlebells. He is an NSCA-CPT and a USAW Club Coach. Frank has also completed the Dave Schmitz Reactive Resistance Band Workshop, Mike Mahler’s Level 1 Kettlebell Seminar, the Kettlebell Concepts Level 1 Seminar and the Tom Mitchell Strongman Basics program. He has over 25 years of martial arts experience and pioneered a full-contact fight club in 1974.
Steven Mosley is a coach with the Battling Ropes® System and works closely with John Brookfield on many other projects. Steven has over two decades of law enforcement and corrections experience. He currently serves as the Director of Training for Force One Readiness and the Georgia Tactical Officers Association. In
addition to work-related experience, Steven has practiced martial arts for over 20 years and holds a first-degree black belt in Chinese Kenpo Karate, Filipino Kali, is a Senior Instructor under the British Combat Association and is also an Apprentice Instructor in Filipino Martial Arts & Jun Fan Gung Fu under Guro Dan Inosanto. Within the fitness arena, Steven’s accomplishments include USA Weightlifting Club Coach, a certified American Kettlebell Club Lifting Coach, a Crossfit© Level One Trainer and an ISSA Certified Fitness Trainer. Charlie Lysak is the founder of Primal Strength & Conditioning which is a dynamic program for developing strength for real fighting, as well as virtually every other athletic endeavor. Lysak is one of the original Ironmind Captains of Crush. He is also a certified coach in the Battling Ropes® System, under John Brookfield. Being the son of reality fighting pioneer Grandmaster Walt Lysak Sr., Charlie Lysak has over 30 years experience in the martial arts and is well known for his expertise in reality fighting as well as strength training. He is a 9th degree Black Belt and co-founder of the Sento Method. Additionally, Lysak holds the rank of 7th degree Black Belt in Jiu Jitsu, 6th Degree Black Belt in Pankration, 6th Degree Black Belt in Kickboxing under the legendary Joe Lewis, as well as high level ranks in several other styles and systems. Lysak has been a coach for many Champion submission grappling and MMA fighters, more than 40 of them nationally rated in the Top Ten. Lysak is a member of numerous Martial Arts Halls of Fame and has received many accolades for both martial arts and strength training.
David Morgan has a Masters Degree in Health and Exercise Physiology. Additionally, he is credentialed as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with Distinction and National Strength and Conditioning Assoc. Certified Personal Trainer with Distinction (CSCS-D). Dave is also a Level I Kettlebell Instructor with KBC. Dave is President/Owner of Enhanced Fitness and Performance Inc. and he is a certified Red Cross Instructor. Dave coached wrestling for 36 years at Maple Heights High School, one of Ohio’s premier wrestling programs. Dave has also coached football, cross-country and track & field. Dave was also a nationally-ranked Master’s Track and Field athlete and a competitive power lifter. Dave has coached hundreds of successful high school athletes in all of those sports, many going on to be outstanding competitors in college including All-Americans in all 3 NCAA Divisions.
Hakim Isler is the Founder of Elite Guard, LLC, a martial arts, fitness and security training company. He has been involved in the martial arts for 22 years and in the security field for the last 8 years. He is a second-degree black belt in To-Shin Do (modern ninjutsu) as taught by world-renowned author and Black Belt Hall of Fame member Stephen K. Hayes. Emily Brabon is the co-owner of the largest civilian bootcamp fitness provider in the Southern Hemisphere ORIGINAL BOOTCAMP. Ana Browne is a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) at the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). Mindy Gagliardi is an ACE certified personal trainer. She is also an avid runner racing anywhere from 5 to 50k’s and everything in between. Mindy has qualified for the Boston Marathon 3 times and consistently places in her age group at local running events. Gary Rock is a personal trainer in the Long Island area of New York where he has worked for the past 6 years. In addition to being a certified Battling Ropes® Level I coach, he has also received a Holistic Lifestyle Coaching certification through the CHEK Institute and is certified in Functional Movement Screening by Gray Cook and Lee Burton. These and several other certifications give him a very Holistic approach to training. In addition to personal training, Gary also conducts local seminars on Kettlebell training that are geared toward personal trainers. He also trains and competes in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Roger Frei is a Battling Ropes® coach from Australia. He has done 5 years of various martial arts ranging from Tae Kwan Do, Ninjutsu, Muay Thai kickboxing, and boxing. John McKenna has been the Athletic Performance Director for all Notre Dame High School Athletic Teams for the last 11 years. Scott Garman – First one to be certified in Arizona under the Battling Ropes®. Scott is an ex-bodybuilder and has done all types of training including kettlebells, cross training, power lifting, sand bags, caveman, and so on.
V.J. Lirio III – Strength and conditioning coach, fitness instructor and martial arts enthusiast. He is the first to receive the Battling Ropes® Level I Coach in the state of New Jersey. Shawn Manning – Graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill and the first RKC Instructor and Battling Ropes® Coach in Wilmington, NC. Dr. Mike Martino – Completed his undergraduate degree at Furman University in Health and Physical Education in 1988. In 1996 he completed his Masters and Doctoral degrees in Exercise Physiology at the University of Alabama. During his tenure at Alabama, he served as an assistant coach to the varsity swim team. In addition to his coaching responsibilities, he also served as a research lab assistant in the Human Performance Laboratory. He is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength & Conditioning Association and he is a Cancer Exercise Specialist through the Rocky Mountain Cancer Rehabilitation Institute in Greely, Colorado. Dr. Martino has been involved with world-class athletes for more than 20 years. He served as a USA National Team Swimming Coach from 1990 through 2000. He was also a member of the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Advisory Coaching Staff in Barcelona and Atlanta. His educational and coaching expertise have allowed him to travel to many different countries for various professional engagements. Catherine Imes – Started working out with free weights 20 years ago in High School. Catherine is a certified Battling Ropes® Instructor and is an RKC (Russian Kettlebell Challenge) Level 2 Certified Instructor and a Kettlebell Sport/Girevoy Sport Competitor. She is the current American Record holder in the Snatch with 200 total Snatches at the NAKF Nationals in San Diego. Catherline is the first U.S. Born Master of Sports.
James P. Clear – Lifelong fitness enthusiast with interest in physical training and functional strength. James has a BS/BA degree in Marketing and is certified to teach K-12 in Physical Education & Health. He was involved in baseball and was a pitcher at Xavier University and in St. Louis Cardinals organization. He was introduced to Olympic style lifting in 1979 and participated in meets in 1993 and 1994. James is looking to use the Battling Ropes® certification training to help the young and elderly with overall fitness and well being.
Chris Mize – Has over 25 years experience in fitness and mixed martial arts training. He was the first person to open an MMA-only school in Alabama and has cornered fighters all over the world. He holds black belts in Judo & Jiu-Jitsu and also teaches Muay Thai kickboxing. Chris has studied with a virtual who’s who in MMA: Gene LeBell, Bas Ruttan, Marco Ruas, and Oleg Taktarov to name a few. As an instructor under MMA legend Erik Paulson, he currently is the civilian combatives instructor for the 20th Special Forces Group in Birmingham. Chris is an expert with kettlebells and just about any other combat fitness implement. He was honored to become a coach under John Brookfield and add the Battling Ropes® to his arsenal. Being in the health care field, he plans on implementing the ropes into fitness programs for bariatric patients and the more debilitated in his community as well.
Vanessa M. Hood – A champion power lifter and employed as the Director of Campus Fitness at Winston-Salem State University. She’s an AAU World Power lifting Raw Masters first-place Champion, World Record holder in the Bench Press & the Dead lift, Best Raw Masters Bencher, and an AAU National Push/Pull Raw Masters first-place Champion. Vanessa is a natural and drug-free champion power lifter with a career as a fitness professional.
Michelle Benedict – Received a degree in 2001 from Brigham Young University in exercise physiology. She is a collegiate athlete who specializes in strength and conditioning and the treatment of sports-related injuries. Michelle is a USA Weightlifting Club Coach, CrossFit Level II instructor, Catalyst Athletics Level I Coach, and Battling Ropes® Level I Coach. She has had the opportunity to coach many National Champion Cheerleading Squads, as well as be an active competitor in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. She excels in Olympic Weightlifting and continues to increase her skill set of strength and conditioning through many Continuing Education programs. Michelle coaches athletes of various levels of ability to success through a variety of protocols. She has designed High School Football, Cheer and Soccer Programs to Kids Healthy Living programs. Jay Simon – Has a passion for fitness which started on an Ohio wrestling mat at the age of five. He has since trained in power lifting, Brazilian Ju-Jitsu, Thai Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts. This experience, along with his in-depth knowledge of fitness, keeps his clients engaged and challenged through a well-balanced selection of strength and conditioning exercises. Is there any battling ropes certifications in the Northwest? I am from WA.
I am a Personal Trainer and own my studio and a spin center. I am a Level II RKC and want to start battleropes in my classes and business. I live in Florida and myself and one of my instructors want to be certified in battleropes. Do we need to take a class or can we purhase the DVD’s and do it her at my studio?? Good afternoon, I am an aspiring strenght and conditioning coach working as a personal trainer in New Orleans, LA at the Nola Xtreme Fitness facility. I recieved a B.S. in physical education and sport with dual concentrations in exercise science as well health & wellness studies. In addition to my academic training I am an active RKC2 and scheduled to finish my certifacation in ACSM CPT in march and RKC CK-FMS in june of 2012. I would like to also acquire my battling ropes level certfication this year and would like for someone from your organization to send the information i need to obtain this goal.
