I work with juveniles in a detention center teaching fitness and also in a lock down treatment center for drugs, alcohol, and anger. My programs involve Battling Ropes, API cave man training, TRX suspension training, and sand bags. All of these programs put together is an amazing training program. never the same work out. Benefits are amazing as well as results for the youth.

Scott,
Thank you for your post. What size ropes do you use for youth and what ages do you work with? I’m thinking of incorporating some rope work in my martial arts school.
Thanks for your time,
Nyls Rothfusz
When i train the youth i use the 1 1/2 inch 50 ft rope to do velocity training. When i do this routine i add treadmill, jump ropes, TRX, and other various equipment.
I have them do the standing series first, example
1. 2 hand waves for 30 seconds, then 30 second sprint on treadmill
2. single handed waves 30 seconds, then 30 treadmill sprint
3. Side winders, then 30 second treadmill sprint
4. In ans Outs, then 30 second treadmill sprints.
Then you can do same series on a stability ball or knees, add jump rope in between, then last series have them sit down and do the series and add some kind of abdominal work.
The youth i work with are amazing, Battling Ropes are part of my daily training with them.
We do use the 2 inch rope 100ft one to do alot of pulling series stuff as well.
At the treatment center it has become successful, an great exercise tool. I have a blind youth that does my program, also youth with Muscular Dystrophy, Multiple Sclerosis, and other issues. Battling Ropes with troubled youth is amazing.
Most of the youth i train inthe Juvenile Detention Center and the Lock Down Treatment Center for Youth is around 11 and up, but have trained some young as 9.
